We are devastated as we had raised one of the pullets since it was 4 weeks old. She was everyone's favorite (Brooke - a Sizzle). The other, Baby, a blue silkie was the sweetest most gentle thing.

My daughter and I are in mourning as is our whole family.

We have seen a fox in our neighborhood, and think that it could be the culprit. Anyone think I should hunt/trap it?

Hi Robert5117,

So sorry about your loss. It's devastating to say the least. I hope you are able to take your family out to find two replacement chicks, or hatch some new babies. There are predators everywhere and unfortunately Silkies are a bit slower getting away than other breeds.

This past year we have lost Silkies to hawks, possums, raccoons, and dogs. Not that I don't love them all, but it's always my special birds or my favorite ones.

I don't know anything about catching foxes. I have a nice close up photo of the hawk who hung out for a few days looking for another meal after killing three of my Silkies and the possum who killed my Coronation Sussex hen. I don't want to loose anymore birds, but I would love to see a fox.

We have new guinea fowl and geese to alert the chickens of danger. It helps, but doesn't prevent all losses.

I hope your family is able to find another Sizzle and Silkie to love.

Take care,
