Sorry you lost more chickens. That’s devastating for sure but it sounds like you need to spend more time on making your enclosure predator proof. Not just the horrible death you are giving them but there will always be more, an endless cycle. And you have no way of just targeting the raccoon anyway…it would be way less complicated to secure your coop. But again, sorry for your loss.

This interim coop arrangement didn’t work, but our main coop has held. We should put latches on our egg boxes, which will help.

You need to get it in a live trap for that. We only caught skunks, which were hard to release obviously.

I would hope the op didn't try to catch one barehanded lol. Dropping cage and all in a barrel of water leaves no bloody mess

Be sure it's a latch a 3 yo child can't open. A carabiner that locks with a twisting nut should do it. A bit inconvenient for you, perhaps, but it will keep the raccoons out. Someone posted a pic recently, let me see if I csn find it or one similar.

Here you go. Put one of these on a hasp and you'll sleep soundly nights. WM has these for under $3 ea.
