I wonder how this riddle got started (the history behind it). It's like the "Can an all-powerful God make a stone so big even He can't lift it?" or maybe even "Why did the chicken cross the road?" and all it various answers (maybe not since the second question is suppose to be humorous and the Egg/Chicken and God-stone questions are more philosophical).

Not to get into a debate but this is what I've always been told...
If you believe in evolution you believe in the egg first (simplified: fish & reptiles came before chickens and they lay eggs too, if you'd like to complicate it more you've got specific chicken hatching and evolving before it lays eggs reproducing what it is)
If you believe in creationism, you believe the adult chicken came before the egg

(I'm not going to get into a argument so I won't tell you if I think chicken or egg came first
