We Need HELP! edited: THIS.....Is.....NOT....Working!!!

Can you take a wire dog crate and put in in the run area/coop area so that the other girls are protected from her but she is still with them??? Maybe do that for a while to break her......

In one of my books, it mentioned that the girls start preparing and practicing shortly before laying. Mine just started to lay yesterday, and she's been acting different for a week. She's been climbing in the nest and practicing making nests elsewhere. If yours practiced like mine did, maybe she thinks the territory is hers...more nest boxes seems like a must.

Also, I'd try distraction, even though it might not work. Someone mentioned hanging a head of lettuce as a sort of food toy.

Does anyone have any experience with clip-on blinders? The farmer we got our chicks from had 2 female ringneck pheasant hens in with a cock. They were picking on him so he put these little red plastic clips on their beaks. They wore them like glasses and because it was in front of their eyes it stopped them from pecking.

Verthandi-

What is REscue REmedy and what will it do?

Hazel has calmed down a BIT (knock on wood) since yesterday. she finally laid her egg... on TOP of the sideways cardboard box I'd provided as a nest box, of course, where she roosted for the night! She must have been too stressed yesterday to lay it and I'll bet that contributed to her crankiness. I'm hoping she'll be calmer today and more accepting of her fate for the moment.

I would like to keep her seperated for another few days at least. I ma just guessing how long, though.... anyone have any idea how log I should keep her out before reintroducing?

Thanks all
Stacey
