at the Cackle Hatchery. We liked the "City-Town" order of 3 or 5 chicks. We got 3 then thought about potential chicks dying since we live WAY up north in Wisconsin by Green Bay. I'll be a mother hen and call the post office then call again, have the brooder ready, have then wrapped in warm blanket to and from the car....Husband is taking the day off when they get here...then they'll come with me to school during the day after the weekend when they get older. They are well versed in chicks, no wobbling tables, thumping the glass, touching them, breathing near them;) Maybe not.. 5 barred rock pullets are on the way and getting shipped from MO on Feb 2nd. so excited for babies!!!

New chicks are something to be excited about! We have 4 BR's In our mixed flock. I remember when they were just little black & white fuzz balls...now they are big girls, all striped and laying. It is so much fun watching them grow.

Have a great time with your new little ones! You'll have to share a photo with us when you get them.

This is a baby picture of one of ours (born April 2014):

And here is a recent picture of her:

GORGEOUS bird! I can't wait!!! We had RIR last year, so I can't wait to see the pretty checkered colors... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqaU-j32YKA
Thanks, I'll let Erik know (although, I think she knows she's gorgeous already, lol).

Watched the video...wow, that's a whole lot of chickens! Thanks for sharing the link. February 2nd will be here before you know it. Enjoy your new little ones!

I ordered some Barred Rocks from Cackle Hatchery years ago, and they arrived healthy, and grew into very nice birds. They were generally docile birds, and I got a good amount of large, brown eggs from them. Good luck with your BR pullets.
