We have started our first backyard flock. After doing a ton of reading and research, and asking around here, we settled on six Isa Brown pullets. There are pros and cons to this hybrid, but I think it will work out well for us. We only had three choices at a local place. These, black sex link, and white leghorn. For us, these were the best of those three.
I think it is funny that my kids are trying to name them, as if they'll know which one is which come tomorrow. Or even an hour from now. They are extremely friendly, not scared at all. They don't mind being handled, and eat from your hand.
