We were in another room watching tv when the chicks started getting loud. Nothing new in that so we didn't go check on them. A little later it happened again. It kept happening but like I said, it's nothing new so we didn't go check.
Then......a cat wanted out of the house. Cat shouldn't have been in the house. The chicks carrying on took on a whole new meaning. Put the cat out and ran to see about my chicks. One was missing. One of a different color which has made it my favorite. We searched and searched and searched. No chick and no noise. We also did not find any blood or feathers. We did find the back door open. There are several cats on the property but as long as I don't put little chicks out, I have not seen the cats bother them.
Although, we could not find blood or feathers, we assumed the cat got my little bird. I have not seen any of the cats even investigate chicks this size. There are 5 day old chicks in with these chicks and it would have been more reasonable for the cat to have grabbed one of them. Nothing I could do about it so we went on with our lives.

We went outside and were working on the yard when my son came out of the house with my little bird! He was perfectly fine. My daughter's door had been open when the chick went missing and her room is like a black hole. If you don't live in there, you aren't going to find anything in there. We told her to go look for the chick and to look for blood and feathers incase the cat carried the chick into her room to eat it. She said she searched her room and found nothing. We assumed that another cat must have come in and taken him back out the back door.
When my son found my little guy, he had heard pitty patting in the dining room and went to investigate. When he went to check the chick ran into a corner.
I sat down and cuddled my little guy and let him sit on my hand, arm, leg and shoulder. He was very curious about my hair. It was dark out side but we have a huge light in our yard, like a street light and so he was trying to roost. He went to the back of my neck and I thought he was under my hair like a chick under it's mama's wing, he wasn't. He was just sitting there. LOL About that time a cat came up and I brought the chick back in and changed the top of the brooder so he couldn't hop out again. We assume that the chick had hidden in my daughter's room and she just didn't see him.
All's well that ends well.
