We went to the feed store and came home with more.....

We went to the feed store for more chicken feed and they were selling there chicks buy one get one free $2.50. There were 12 of the most ugly chicks I have ever seen. There pen's were a mess and stunk so very bad. I said no we were not getting any more and we left to go shopping. On our way home we stoped back buy the feed store and bought all 12. I felt so sorry for them it was so hot and there shaving were wet and dirty. So now we are up to 30 chickens. Next year we will have eggs coming out our ears!!My son is very happy to have new babies to care for. They are suposed to be black sex-link chicks. I don't know anything about this breed but it sounds like they are good layers.
I would have never guessed two yrs ago when we got our first 7 hens that we would have 30. I think we have a problem. They are like chips and you can't just have 1 or 10 for that matter.

Oh, thank you for doing that -- you're a good person! And boy, do I understand.

We have 35 adults, and my husband pushed for more, so we used broody hens and an incubator to get 32 more. He wanted even more, and I said no, since I end up taking care of them.

Anyway, we just discovered a "missing" hen on a nest with 17 more eggs, so we brought her inside to let her hatch them out. I just candled them, and they're ALL fertile. Oh, geez! that would make 84! Make it stop!!

84 chickens WOW. That is a lot of chickens and alot of eggs. We have lot's of fun with the chickens. They are like little dogs and follow us around. They are great help with all the horse poop they spread it all around and get all the bugs.
The feed store had other chicks also but nobody was even looking at this group because they are older and alot of feathers are missing, there going through that odd stage and there water trough/cage was sooo yucky they were all wet and poopy.

Everybody was buying the cute little fuzzy ones, so when we went back and they were still there I just could not leave them. They will proubly grow up to be the best looking chickens we have on the place.
