Hi there.

Last night when I candled my eggs I saw that one was "in" in air spot so I left it be. In the afternoon it still had not broken through so I made a little hole so it could breathe (just a few days ago I lost two chicks because they didn't hatch in time and they lost air so I've been worrying about how long the chicks are in the egg without breaking though) and I left it be.

My last chick hatched fine and was very chirpy and energetic even hatching but this one even inside the egg was always a but slower and it didn't peep as much. Now it's out and it's chirping a bit and fluffed out but it's still curled up like it was inside the egg and it's not opening its eyes. It did a little while ago but I haven't seen it open its eyes since.

What's wrong with the little guy? Can I help him at all? Is he going to be okay?

He's still alive but he's not walking/trying to walk and not opening his eyes/trying to.

Would this be a problem of maybe him hatching too early? I'm fairly sure he was on day 21.

It's out of the egg now. His eyes are now open and he's laying on my lap on a heat pad. I'm wondering if I should mush up chick feed and give him some?
If it's still absorbing its yolk it won't need feed. You can show it feed and water but don't force it to eat..

Sorry I mean that it's literally out of the egg. No more yolk or anything.

I can't remember if there was any more yolk but say if there were would that be part of the problem with him?

You don't understand. They also have yolk in the belly and absorb that first. Has nothing to do with being out of the egg now...That's why they can ship live Chicks because they can survive 3 days on the yolk in the belly..
Ohhhhh I see! Thanks for explaining that. :-) So if he's good for about 3 more days than what else can I do? He's chirping now and "moving around" (turning himself around in circles). I've never had a chick like this. He does seem happy though.
