I ordered some chicks that came this am. I have 1 that is very weak. She isn't chirping and I don't think the can even stand. She will lift her head and open her beak. Any ideas what I can do to help her if anything?

This is what she is doing but no sound.

You can try to give her a little sugar water. Some Nutri-Drench in her water might help too if you have that on hand. But the sad fact is that sometimes there is just nothing we can do for the really really weak ones. So do what you can - like I said, I've used sugar water on stressed new chicks with fairly good results - but if it isn't to be then you just have to move on and focus on keeping the healthy chicks strong. I'm sorry. There are lots of folks out there way smarter than I am and maybe they have some better ideas.

Get or make some electrolytes and dip her beak into them as often as you can every hour today and tomorrow. SaveAChick vitamins and electrolytes are good, and here is a homemade recipe (sugar and salt are the important ingredients):

HOMEMADE ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION

1/2 teaspoon salt substitute (potassium chloride)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon table salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 gallon water

You know, I've seen that before and spaced it....I'm going to copy it down now!

Thanks. I've been trying the sugar water.

What if I don't have the salt sub. Can I use salt or skip it?
