Weak/dying chicks.

This is Foggy. It's looking like a girl... for now. She's a white Cochin.

And here's Penguin. She doesn't cooperate for pictures. I have 2 black Cochins and 2 red I have yet to name. They look so much alike I don't think I could keep them straight in a few weeks.

They are too cute!

The six Cochins are still doing great! We've even discovered our first rooster, which has now been named "Quigley". He's one of only two that actually look like Cochins at 3 1/2 weeks old. He's already grown most of his feathers including his feet feathers! He's going to be a beautiful roo!

We have a new shipment of chicks arriving tomorrow. 8 Sebrights and 5 Cochins. We hope all goes well!

Well we got them. We ordered 13 and got 26! I would be happy about all the extras except for we weren't prepared for that many. Last time when it's was colder, they only included 7 extras and now in Spring we have 13 extras?! I am giving away the extras this evening because they're are too many. Normally I'd keep them about a week to make sure they come through shipping stress ok, but I have no room to keep them that long. We've split them up so half are in with our 3 weeks old chicks. We've only lost 2, one of which was DOA. Nutridrench is amazing! It has brought a couple chicks "back to life".

We had a "packing peanut" that was almost dead when I got them home and it's doing wonderful now. We've lost 1 Sebright since I got them home and we have another that's not going to make it. But 3 definitely beats the 7 I had die last time. We have aanother Sebright that was lying out flat earlier that has been walking around and even drank on its own. It may not make it but it's still refreshing that finally they're getting better.

defiantly beat 3 than 7, i cant remember the last time we DIDNT have problems raising chick, we've lost so many from sicknesses, dogs, raccoons you name it. this year we had just gotten 11 easter eggers from a local tractor supply and they all seems fine,so far. meanwhile sometime around next week were going to incubate a few dozen duck eggs and just a couple chicken eggs.
Hope everything goes as planed its our first time incubating eggs.

In total we've lost 5 out of 8 Sebrights. We ordered extra for a reason. We originally were just keeping one but they're so cute we may keep all 3- depending on if they're hens or roosters. Everyone seems to be perfectly fine except for a constipated Cochin. He's trying so hard lol. He looks and acts fine so I'm not worried. The packing peanut I kept (in case it didn't make it) has been doing great. He decided to perk up after I gave away the rest of the peanuts. I guess I'm keeping him until I know what breed he is. Just for my own curiosity lol.
