Weak/dying chicks.

The Barred Rock has taken a turn for the worst.

I think your chicks are carrying something. Don't know where you got them, but I would send one away for a necropsy to get to the bottom of it. If something shows up, you have something to make a case with the hatchery.

The Barred Rock just died. I noticed he had a large lump on his right side near his neck with no feathers. The other Barred Rocks are pecking the bantams for no reason but I've never seen them pick on him. Any ideas? Is it where he's been picked on or could it be something else. I've noticed another Cochin standing around with his eyes shut every once in a while. He eats and drinks, and even scratches around but now seeing it worries me. The BR deteriorated so fast. He was walking and even eating at 8am. I worry that the Cochin will do the same.

That describes a full crop and shouldn't be an issue. I assume they have chick grit available. They way they are dropping off one by one, I suspect a disease making it's way through them. A necropsy I think is in order. Maybe you can stop the spread by sanitizing the water they are using. Oxine is good, I think bleach can be used (you would have to research the dose) or I think you can buy water sanitizers in the feed store, but I doubt the effectiveness of those against disease spread. Oxine and bleach would be better.

I'm confident it was just shipping stress and the fact they were a day late. None of the rest are showing any signs of disease or illness.

I gave the Barred Rocks away so now it's just the 6 Cochins. I've switched them back to shavings and they're at it again! They're just digging..... for now. And.... one just ate a piece.

♂️ I'm watching them while typing this. They are happy and hyper. I'll try to get hem grit tomorrow or the day after.

Yep its what they love most scratching around. I would get grit today. I wouldnt wait a couple days.
If you really cant leave to get it, i would at least go dig up some dirt and give them a bowl so they can find some grit themself
And oh how come you gave away the barred rocks? Just curious :)

All the Barred Rocks are roosters and I'm only raising bantams. Mostly Cochins. I have no room for them and they aren't a desired breed of mine.
