I was recently contacted by a lady who got a chicken (from amember of this forum) and the lady was told the chicken had 'weak legs' and could not be around other chickens.
So this lady has kept this bantam in the house and now she wants to find it a new home...me.
What is 'weak legs' and how would it affect an adult bird? I was thinking splayed leg in chicks but that couldn't be it.

how old is the bird?
is she laying?

has she been wormed?
can you have a fecal test done to check for worms?
worms can sometimes make them "lose their Legs."

check her eyes for any gray or distortion ..

check legs, back, hip for any heat or swelling..
check bottoms of feet and between the toes for any sores or scabs, heat or swelling.

it could be from a lack of certain vitamins and minerals...causing a form of Rickets.
try giving poultry vitamins, or Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins..Enfamil brand, no iron..3 drops, once a day on beak for a week or so, then taper off for a week..in the meantime, try and get some poultry vitamins.
you can also try the Avia Charge, sold at McMurray Hatchery, or Strombergs.

she may need calcium and Vitamin D..
you can try making her up this mixture..
some laying feed, water cooked oatmeal, plain yogurt, cooked egg yolk.
give her this 3 times a day..(about 3 tablespoons per feeding)..for a week along with the vitamins suggested above..

it's also possible the bird might have been injured by a heavy roo trying to breed.

hope this helps and the bird gets better..
others might have suggestions.

Well, I don't have her yet. I am trying to get pix of her and should have some tomorrow. The lady who had her before told the current owner she had weak legs and could not be around other chickens bc of that. I asked the current owner about it and she said she did have some trouble walking but that she can get around. This lady has had her for about 6 months so she is laying age.
I just want to know about any conditions this could possibly be before I take her, I want to be prepared.
