I have a new chick who i had to assist
He came out of the membrane on his own the next day but now a day and 1/2 old he is still somewhat unsteady wont eat the crumbles looks small .
I have been eye drop feeding him crumbles with water and sugar to get him stimulated
So far he sort of likes that swallows but not eager.Peeps a lot and stays in the corner by himself Never pecks at a thing.Have never seen him peck and only once saw him take a drink and that was when i stood him there.Maybe he lost his balance and dipped in but he did seem to swallow that one sip.

He also seems like although he trys to stand up like the rest he can only do it for a minute then ends up sitting on his butt and head droops and then falls asleep cant seem to stay up. Maybe why he didnt do more than pip.
What more can i do to get him pepped up?Somehow his beak looks extra long to me too but maybe its still normal length
He can open his beak What can I do to help him?

Hey!
You can try giving him electrolytes, like some sav a chick powder at orschelens, tractors supply etc. Good luck!

I agree with the other poster - to give electrolytes. It's good you are feeding him from the eye dropper cause they eat that. I would just keep doing that until he is strong enough to eat on his own.

I wish you luck!

You're doing pretty much everything I have had to do with weak chicks in the past. I usually mix a dish of crumbles with water to make it soft, sometimes adding vitamins, electrolytes, sugar, etc to the water I use to moisten it, and I give a drop of Poly-Vi-sol baby vitamins without iron daily on the side of the beak to the weak ones. A few years ago I did have to seperate two weak chicks because they were getting trampled and bullied. They both made it just fine once they started eating and drinking on their own. As a matter of fact, they grew up to be the heads of the flock as far as pecking order goes.

Both of them took about a day of me dropper feeding them before they started to get the energy to eat on their own.
I would tap my finger in their dish- dip their beak in it, etc...until they figured it out.

Good luck!

Rifght afteri wrote he strarted to eat food off my finger wetted down with sugsr Still goes in the corner by himself but isstareting to stand more than he did. Im encouraged! Thanks for the info. At least i know i am doing the right thing.
