I had a 'hatch' of bourbon reds about a month ago that I only managed to get 2 hatchers out of. One was stronger and healthier right out the gate, and another was weaker and maybe 2/3 the size. The larger one managed to drown itself, and that possibility is no more, but now I am down to just the one. I put it out with a bunch of chickens it hatched with and it seemed a bit cold even with the heat lamp on in the tractor, so I put it back in the brooder with both a heating pad and a heat lamp. Its eating the 30 percent game bird starter and drinking the chicken gatorade stuff, but not really improving. Its eyes always look kind of sleepy, and its respiration rate is accelerated about double a regular birds I would estimate. Is there anything else I should be doing for it, or is it time to cull?

Try giving it some well cook egg yokes. If it doesn't have someone to cuddle with it will be a bit colder; chicks try to share warmth with each other so even with a heat lamp and/or pad, they might seem a little colder. Do its eyes seem a bit big? Or do they look darker around the socket? Is the down fluff fully developed? I had a turkey that hatched early and was very weak and lethargic--it died about a week later. Can you maybe post a picture of the chick/poult?
