I wrote in about a month ago about my weak rooster. I treated him for scaley leg mites, but really don't think that was a problem after all. I have been treating him with garlic in his food and organic apple cider vinegar in his water in case of internal parasites. Actually, I've had my good neighbors taking care of my chickens as I have been out of town for 3 weeks, and he has not improved at all. Maybe even a little weaker. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the crop does, and could that be a problem. I just looked at the post that did the surgery on her chickens crop. I just wondered if that same symptom could cause weakness. He just sits and doesn't move around much at all. He will go in the house and out in the morning but he isn't very active.
When he walks, he shakes and quivers.
He does eat and drink some. If it is his crop, what do I look for and how do I treat it? I don't think I could do the surgery!!!

Thank you for any info.

The crop is also known to osme as the craw. It is the pouch at the right base of the neck that holds all the goodies they eat until it can be funnelled into the gizzard where the food items are ground up (using some of the grit they ate too). Crop surgeries are done if this sack fets enlarged due to things they eat not passing on down, like long pieces of hay, straw or even nuts and bolts! Yep!
Speckledhen gives her flock a routine dosing of soft oatmela with vegetable oil or I think she prefers olive oil to help maintain a helathy crop.
If you don't see a great bulge on the lower side of your chicks neck....please don't go Dr. Kildare on him.
I would isolate him from the flock, watch his eating intake and fluids. His poo, to see if it is normal, check for lice as they will suck the life outa a bird.
Try giving him polyvisol liquid vitamin dose once daily and see if you can get him to eat a scrambled egg , yogurt or even cooked chicken.
Your other option is to contact your state's avian expert, usually with a university or cull him out of the flock.
Whatever he's got ...you don't want for the rest of your flock.
Good Luck and God Bless.

I feel as he has lived this long he must have a case of E.coli

here is what to do for E.coli and
the bird just standing around and not his lively self as should be

the best thing for the bird is the
wet mash probiotic with Vit E and Vit B complex
this will help the bird's nervous system which is being attacked at this time
E.coli does attack the nervous system also

do this
*** Multiply the amt of the wet mash with the vit's by amt of chickens fed

If your not putting the rooster by his self then do this
each chick needs the same amt of vit's each time

(A) natural probiotic wet mash with Vit E and Vit B complex added immediately
basically the chicken has some nerve damage do this immediately
need neurolodigal vit E and Vit B complex for nervous disorder Also the apple cider vineager in water

(1) 2 tbsp per gallon of water till chickens are well and the 2 times a week for life
for one chicken use 1 tbsp of ACV
1 pint of water

(2 immediately give the chicken 1000 mg capsule of liquid Vit E by cutting the end of the capsule and taking the vit E liquid and mix in wet mash probiotic

(2-B) total amt of capsules equals the total amt of chickens fed vit's

(3 also need to crush a vit B complex pill in tabsp and add it the chicken's wet mash after it is disolved

(3-C) then give this to the chicken or chickens twice a week for two weeks should see much improvement

(4 Do both Vit's twice today then for 7 days till you see some improvement in the chicken or chickens

(5 today I would see if the chicken will eat a wet mash with the Vitamins E and B complex

(-B) THIS IS FOR ONE CHICKEN

natural probiotic wet mash
2 tbp of dry crumbles
3 tbp of milk sweet, sour or buttermilk
1 tbsp of non flavored yogurt
1 tbsp of apple sauce
put it on top so the chicken can smell and see it
mix good and put the
vit E liquid as directed in the wet mash
and crumble the Vit B complex tablet in a tabsp and add to the wet mash

**BESURE AND MIX VIT'S VERY GOOD IN WET MASH***

(6 Do this twice a day for 7 days to see if the chicken or chickens are better
then do this once a day for another week then once a week for a while
this should give the nervous system some stability

(6-A) they should clean wet mash plus vit;s up in 20-30 minutes
clean out wet feeders and restock the dry chicken crumbles

(7 you can email by PM for more information and include this inf so I remember what is happening

email me any questions
