where do you sell your pelts? last time i check going rate is like 5$ max at the auctions. just interested as i trap as well but have never heard a weasel pelt over 20$ being sold.

Our local fur trader. State minimums. It’s illegal in Indiana to sell to third parties.

I kill and skin it and sell the pelt for $25. Coyotes are my bigger income with $45.

I wish you lived near me. We have a lot of coyotes around here.

I live in NH too and we had a (failed, thankfully) ermine/weasel attack last September and a suspected (successful - lost 2 hens) one last August. I'm now diligently checking the fell circumference of our barn daily for tracks. I moved the flock to the barn when my new chicks aged out of the brooder in October. Covered every opening in the new coop with 1/2 and 1/4 wire mesh. So far so good (knock on wood). Good luck!! Keep us posted!

Thank you everyone for the responses! The weasel was caught! I’ll be covering up holes and any openings with wire mesh this spring once all this snow is gone!! New england loves to stretch out there winters. I plan to full clean out the barn and check for any animal nests in the eaves/lofts.

I won’t be selling it, im pretty attached to it since it was my first pelt so it will probably just be random decoration hung on a wall (did a lot of research and just finished tanning it, these pics are right after i skinned him)

Not too difficult
I dried the pelt out for about 2 days, washed it, and put it in a salt and alum mixture and soaked it for couple hours. Its a long process and I didn’t go into to much detail. But for me as a teenager I didn’t have a problem and it actually came out pretty good in my opinion!

A predator on my stock is destined for that sort of end anyway and even then it seems to me a respectful thing to make what use that you can from it's death.

Yes! I love the fact that I didn’t have to just throw away its body. Instead of wasting it i was able to salvage its beautiful pelt.

I think the hides can be frozen too if it isn't a convenient time to tan them. If I do have to dispatch a predator I will definitely try tanning the hide.
