Weasel Problem

Last year I had 75 chickens in my coop. I went out one morning to feed them and about 15 were dead. I checked them out and figured out that a weasel got into the coop.

So I went back into house for lunch and went back out about a half hour after I was out there last and 45 more were dead! Just in a half hour!

I then patched up every single hole I could find, put plywood over all the windows and I went back that night and only 3 were left of the 75.

So now I am wondering if weasels will come back to the same coop the following year or was it just bad luck. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Strart trapping before you put birds in that coop. You might have had only one then. However, such a good hunter, has now given birth! You have to trap... If you want... buy rat traps and place then about six inches above the ground vertically with some ripe meat under the pan.

I would go over the entire coop, every square inch, with a fine tooth comb. Don't forget the roof. Just a bit more than a square inch is about all the hole a weasel needs to get in. Seal up the holes tight, make sure they are ALL gone. Watch for rotted wood and loose boards.
If you eliminate all the holes bigger than a 1 inch square, then no weasel will get in.
