Weasels? Terrible massacre!!!

Thanks everyone, I got two live traps today one racoon size and the other alot smaller I set them both with some already cooked chicken, I didn't have the other stuff, but will try and buy some livers tomorrow I did try and catch some chubs (fish) today but no luck. I didn't think about the weasel being so light weight, but it is dark out now. How would you set the trap to close at a lighter weight? I have never trapped anything in my life so this is my first experience, I did however trap my cat already this evening LOL he was very confused. but now they are all in for the night.

Sounds like a weasle to me. They are blood suckers. They can get in really small holes. We have chicken netting around our run to help, but they can dig, so if they want in back enough they will get in. Do you have barn cats, or dogs? My dogs are on leads, because I can't trust them with my chickens, but my cats are free and if they see something they are on it. And they don't bother my chickens.

I would get a trap for sure. If you don't want to kill it when you catch it, take it far, far, away and let it go.

I'll ask my husband when I talk to him later this morning....he was the one who did it, but I'm not clear on how.

So did you catch anything in your trap?
I'm sorry that you lost so many of your flock... so sad.
I sure hope you catch it!

Hi im from vermont and it sounds like you have either a weasel or a fisher cat. I lost my whole flock in one night also it was devastating. They will suck the blood out of the chickens. They are very intelligent and will avoid traps. I used a baby moniter on my coop to try to catch it. good luck

I just recently had a scene at my house like that involving a mink. We have snow now so I can see his tracks now when he comes back looking for more. I have set traps but he's appartently too smart. I have since built a new coop that he cannot get into. If it's a weasel you can try a large rat trap that's achored down. Put it somewhere where only a weasel can fit to make sure you don't injure some other innocent creature.

Cooked meat doesn't usually work well, it will have to begin spoiling first and will likely draw other than the target animals.

Bloody livers preferably chicken, but any will do. Dead chicken carcasses are excellent also.

Google weasel box.

Make sure you are in compliance with the laws of your state.
