So I'm assuming that weather changes can change the egg laying of my hens??

Our hens are 11 months old they have been laying for us for a couple of months give or take. 98% of the eggs have been normal except for the occasional soft-shell eggs and 1 of my hens tried to go broody but we successfully stopped her.

The last couple of days our temps changed and went up dramatically, from like 50' to 80's. Instead of getting 4 eggs every day like clock work, we got 2 and then the next morning, we got 2 soft-shelled under their roost.

I'm thinking this is all normal stuff but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks!!:)

The number of eggs we get definitely goes up and down with weather changes this time of year. Poor girls, they think it's soon going to be summer and produce, then in a week it's 30 degrees and they slow down. Rinse and repeat.

The soft shells is probably a separate thing, though. I'd give them a calcium boost, maybe mix a Tums in their water a couple of times a week. I'm assuming you already have oyster shell our for them? Or you could get ambitious (which I haven't) and research how much calcium they should get for a boost. I do know some hens require more than others.

Actually, there are several causes for soft shell eggs:
