weather related question

I plug both the heat lamp and the 40 watts bulb in the cinder block into the thermo cube. the thermo cube only controls when the electricity is on. the heat lamp is to keep the air/chickens warm, the 40 watt bulb in the cinder block keeps the water from freezing. Not sure if my chickens will need the heat lamp this year as they are all fully feathered where as last winter they were just 6 months old and not fully developed
Hope I explained that right LOL

Thanks - I'll experiment to find a way to make it work - I don't plan to heat the coop - just the water - and the waterer is outside the coop in a covered area - at least for now. I think if I get a large cinder block (with a really large hole - or fabricate such a thing) it should work with the thermocube inside the block.

Think of the outdoor birds in winter - I always think of chickadees. They don't have any heat! A chicken has a much larger body mass. I think in a draft free (and for up here, well insulated) coop they'll do just fine as long as they have access to unfrozen water. However, the cinder block thing looks intriguing, I could do that with a large square block I've got outside (it's an old fashioned chimney section), and put the waterer on top, along with that Thermo Cube plug......interesting idea!
