I'm in the process of finishing up my coop/run that I constructed. The coop is 4'x6' with a 6'x12' covered run. (Very similar to the Wichita Cabin Coop). I'm putting the finishing touches on the run itself and am getting ready to add sand to it. My question is this, should I put weed block down to prevent weeds, grass, etc. from coming up as well as not allowing the sand to wash away, or would the small amount of weeds that come up through the sand be beneficial to the birds?

The sand washing away is a valid concern. I don't know if weed block will do it. You may need a bumper along the sides to keep it from moving out sideways.

Chickens will eat every green living thing if they spend enough time in there. So I wouldn't worry about weeds unless they aren't going to spend much time locked up.

You won't have any weeds or grass in your run in about a week. Weed block won't work. They will scratch it up to get to the dirt underneath it. If the sand washes out just plan on adding a few wheelbarrows full every year.

Thanks for the replies. This is what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure!
