I can't think of any weed killers that are safe to use around chickens. The popular one, glyphosate, is implicated in causing cancer, so you wouldn't want your chickens eating leaves that have been sprayed. Do your chickens eat the kudzu? I have read that it can be used in cooking, so maybe the chicks will keep it trimmed back for you. If it is outside the run, threatening to over take it, you might consider getting a goat to keep it cleared. Maybe you could rent or borrow a goat periodically.
Ya, goats have been something I've been consodering for the last couple months, as the problem has grown worse. I live in a semi rural/semi suburb type of neighborhood, and I've had goats before (pygmies), and like goats, but they can get a little liud in their bleating, and the chickens and rooster crowing was just close to a stretch for the neighborhood, all by themselves. Now, a couple goats (theyre herd animals, right, so two at the minimal would be healthy for them?)? That might be stretching things a bit, lol! :-)

I would try cutting it to the ground and laying a heavy black plastic sheet on it.
No herbicides in that. ;)

Then there is the burning and goat options.

We don't have kudzu here but those are what I would try first.

Maybe talk to the folks at your farm stores to see what they do.
Thats my next move talking to the local feed store. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I think maybe I'll try a pair of pygmie goat doe's. They'll do the job (its a big job with the whole chicken run/yard deal ive got set up, and I'll see if their bleating creats an issue with the neighbors. Most in the neighborhood have about a little less then 1/2 acre house lots.

Here some ranchers rent out their goats for weed control. Maybe an option so you don't have long term commitment and can see how the neighbors react.

In some areas there are folks who 'rent' goats for undergrowth removal. Perhaps someone by you provides this service. Try posting on your state thread and see if anyone there can help.
