This chick I rescued is growing strong and inseparable from me. She really sees me as her mom. I've never done this and it is amazing to see how she follows me around, perches on my shoulder, "dust" bathes on my shoulder or lap, pecks at my clothing and shakes, grooms herself lol. It's so funny. She knows my voice. As soon as I come in the house and she hears me she starts chirping. What a crazy 2 weeks of getting to know her, yet what a blessing.

How adorable! What is her rescue story? Do you have other chicks or chickens? They’re flock animals so they love company.
About 2 weeks ago my daughter's friend asked if we wanted a baby chick. Her friend's brother found her at a construction site all by herself. So he took her and tried to find her a home. She ended up with us! Currently, I have 5 hens and 1 rooster. 1 of the 5 hens went broody about a month ago and I decided to place some eggs under her to hatch out chicks. 4 out of the 5 eggs hatched and babies are currently 5-6 days old. I tried to sneak the rescue in during night and it seems she tool her in. However, the rescue started to peck at hen and hen's chicks so hen corrected behavior gently but after that she didn't want her around. Rescue doesn't want hen and hen doesn't want her either. The baby only wants me. I have never experienced this and really was hoping it would work out with hen and her babies but now I deduced to just keep her inside until feathers are all in. Then transition her outside in her own little space with food and water but not directly with flock where they can peck at her. Honestly, not sure of outcome but I'm being hopeful. Let's see.

Aw congrats on the cute little addition! Seems like she will end up being your best friend 🥰 great to hear stories of rescues. Probably one of the most poorly treated species in the world, so I love a good rescue story. Glad she found a caring home.

As cute as it is, this isn't healthy behavior.
Don't let "her" perch on your shoulders, it's a long drop for her and when she's grown and tries to get on your shoulders, you don't want a talin to the eye.
She needs other chickens to bond to.
I agree. Although she just flies up to my shoulder every single time, despite me putting her down. I always sit as close to ground as possible, but falling is a possibility. Regarding the eye, she already got me on the lid so you're right about that. Could definitely turn into eye injury. Thank you for your feedback. I'm learning so anything helps.

I tried. I just feel the lack of experience led her to be alone. I was thinking the other would take her in. I should've just got another chick or 2 from the feed store but since I had some already hatching I didn't want to end up with more than I originally planned. I just didn't want her to die alone in the wild. Although it's nature and things happen. I couldn't be ok to saying no to her. So one day at a time. I'm trying to learn as much as possible for her.

We had something similar happen with an adult hen that the neighbor had and wanted to cull. It was really really tough to take in a single hen and integrate her, but so worth it. She is my favorite hen now and I’d do it all over again for her. Hang in there, no one knows what they’re doing at first and I agree, it’s so much better than her dying all alone.
