Ok first let me take my licks for not posting in well over a year...biggest of apologies to Grannie Hatchett and all my peeps, no pun, you know how it gets with 50 chickens, 18 guineas, and 2 tom turkeys....so busy. Ergo my problem. Friend gave me 12 silkie eggs to incubate. Candles twice now at day 14. Nothing extraordinary except one egg apparently not fertile. Preparing for lock down in 4 days, was going to candle one more time. Granted I've only used this incubator, on guinea chicks and did super good. Wake up this morning to a very loud very mad very bigood Silky chick? Common sense says he won't make it as he is 6 days early, but the fact is he,now named Jor el. Shout out to Superman nerds, fully developed, black skinned like a silkie. What the heck? I'm racking my brain here. Now must note humidity has been an issue twice. It dropped painfully low twice and has been at the upper end of high, 56 degrees. Please tell me I'm dreaming? How in the world did this happen. For clarification I did candle at day one for bacteria so that blows my theory of an early bird. Again no pun. Advice always welcome as usual. Oh and good morning everyone

Whoever gave you the eggs may not have been aware that the egg might have been developing long before the gave you the eggs. There may have been birds sitting on that egg for awhile before it was collected.

Hello all, update...btw hello Eggcessive! Long time no talk! I figured out what happened. Again I had pre candled the eggs so I knew I was starting fresh. Candled at day 5 and again at day 12. So I thought...as it turns out my stupid counter on my stupid incubator is not staying accurate. Not sure why. I looked back at my Facebook Messenger as my husband sent me a message the day he picked up the eggs from a co-worker. I know I started them that day, March 5. They hatched yesterday, March 24. I say they, Jorel was soon followed by 3 fully developed siblings . So yesterday was actually day 19, my kids were actually real close to on time. The few days difference would be from the humidity issues with the incubator. 12 eggs were set, 4 hatched, 2"never got off the ground and 6 more still in the incubator! My first Silkies!!!

Update!
6 fat fuzzy silkie babies! One was a surprise. A naked neck silkie!!! It was by black and I totally freaked out. I called my husband at work almost in tears telling him I think something is wrong with my baby, it looks like his brain is bulging out! Husband thankfully called the lady who gave me the eggs and surprise! She said oh yeah I DO have naked neck Silkies. Boy do I feel dumb. So they are THE CUTEST ❤️.

Thank you! I absolutely love hatching eggs in my incubator. My husband is afraid I'm going to go off the deep end and start hatching whatever eggs I can find. He Sayed I better stop before I start trying to hatch a snake egg! No worries there. I like seeing the miracle of a tiny critter developing under my ovascope. Simply amazing!

Ok somebody stop me!! I went to Tractor Supply and bought 4 Silkie chicks yesterday... Today my husband wanted to go there to peruse the Apple tree selection....needless to say I left there with 4 more cjicks...2 more Silkies and two Sapphire Plymouth rock...Don't have the slightest idea what that is, but by Jove I have two of them .

Yikes! My brooder runneth over. In total now, 4 Silkies from my hatch, (lost 2 of the original 6 due to my own stupidity), 4 Silkies from Tractor Supply(2 buff, 2 black,) 4 more from Tractor Supply the very next day, ( 2 more buff Silkies, and the 2 Plymouth Barred). My brooder is a myriad of color, fuzz , shavings and fun. With all this Buff babies does this mean I have a Buff-ay? Get it, Buffet. Ok not funny.Between all these babies plus my live in pet baby girl,Starfire, and studying for my Vet Tech I might be going nutty. Oh well it's not the destination so much as the journey.
