Hi,

Hoping maybe someone knows if this is someting to worry about. I got four chicks from MyPetChicken on Tuesday of last week. They have been doing well, eating and drinking a lot, and don't have any obvious problems. But for the last 2 days or so, the yellow buff Orpington chick has been laying down a lot. She can walk around, they are all extending their wings and flapping around the brooder, but she still spends most of her time lying down. I noticed this behaviour in the Dominique chick late last week but then she stopped doing it, and the Buff Orpinton chick started doing it. But it is more obvous with this chick, and she is usually lying down no matter what time of day we check on them.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks!
Laura

We had some of our chicks going through this but they all stopped with in a matter of days. She may just be going through a growth spurt and exerting a lot of energy. Also any time this happened with our chicks we made SURE that our chicks knew where that water was. We took each of them and dipped their beak in the water. Also you can buy electrolytes and your local feed and supply store to put in the water . Another option is to add sugar to the water just to give them that extra energy that your chick may be lacking.

Hope your chick gets better!
