A praying mantis!!! Was out checking on the broody and the chicks and ‘lost’ one of the bar rock chicks. Looking around I found her with her prize. Big ol praying mantis by the middle. Probably 2.5-3” long. She masterfully hid from the other 11 and momma until I brought all their attention to her. There was a five minute bout of ‘gimme that’ and she finally got it by the head and choked most of it down. During the ruckus one of my sapphires spotted the tasty morsel and stole the last half inch sticking from her jaw. Thinking she did the chick a favor.
