This chick is holding one leg in the air like she doesn't want to put any weight on it. Can anything be done or is she doomed?

There's always (usually) something that can be done. :)

Check out https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/713499/my-chicken-sling-pic and scroll to the second post. This will allow her to place her foot on the ground without putting too much weight on it, and will give her support when she needs a rest.

Put some turmeric (the yellow spice) in with a little boiled egg yolk where she can reach it to help with internal inflammation. She should gobble that right up. :)

When she starts feeling better, she'll get restless. I caution against "releasing" her too soon. Turmeric will reduce the inflammation before it's fully healed, and she can reinjure herself... Kinda like taking a muscle relaxer for back pain and then thinking you're cured. Keep her in her sling for at least a week, I'd say.

You'll be able to tell when she's better.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for the reply- I may have to go buy the turmeric I don't believe I've ever cooked with it. Luckily we have lots of orphan socks around

My pleasure. :) Fortunately, turmeric should be relatively easy to find... There's no dosage, either. Just liberally sprinkle some on her food and let her go to town!
