I recently bought chicks a week ago. They all seemed really healthy. Eating and drinking on their own. A few days later I noticed one of the chicks had pasty butt so I removed it with a warm wash cloth and added a small amount of Vasoline. I noticed a day ago she looked like she had diarrhea and today she had a really red cloaca and very badly smelling diarrhea on her down feathers around her cloaca. I am feeding them 1/2 dumor 24% and 1/2 nature’s best organic chick starter. I didn’t realize that the dumor was for game birds and thought maybe that was the cause of her issues. She still eats and drinks but it worries me about the diarrhea. I saw a yellow string like poop hanging from her butt. Could it have been a worm?
Thank you,

Her poop is not always like this. I did see her produce a solid orange poop yesterday. But still has a poopy butt. Still active and eat/ drinking. I switched them over to Manna Pro chick starter medicated as that was the only medicated food available and I have them on electrolytes and probiotics in their water for the next 3 days to see if that helps her.

Typical cecal poop, they'll have several of those a day.
Cut out the electrolytes, just plain water is all they need.
There are probiotics in most feeds.

One of my chicks had pasty butt and diarrhea as well so we started incorporating organic oats in the food and they have had solid poops ever since!! No more pasty butt! Hope this helps!

Go easy on the oats, reduces nutrition and could swing the pendulum to constipation.
How long did you feed the oats?

I was unaware of that! Thanks for the information!
I started giving them some with their normal starter crumbles a little over a week ago. I will definitely reduce it to just every once in a while!
