My 2 baby silkies are a week old now. They are doing great! They eat and drink and poop like its going out of style. The heat under the lamp has been 95. I hear that after every week you lower the temp by 5 degrees. Is this correct? If so, should I lower it to 90 now?

Thanks guys

Matt

I'm working with 300 broiler chicks in a brooder right now and I let them tell me if they're too hot or too cold.

Panting = too hot

Huddled together to sleep = too cold

Well-spaced while sleeping = just right

Yes, try raising the lamp to lower the temperature and make sure they have the option of moving away from the heat by going to the other side of the brooder if they so choose.

ah thanks! My brooder is not very big. Actually its your typical rubber made container that I am sure they are going to grow out of quite soon. They are never in the cold or cooler area of the tub but they don't huddle together to sleep. They like to hide in the corner but when sleeping they sleep alone. I am assuming they are fine then.
