Week old chicks

I have 7 week old chicks, they've started chasing feathers around the brooder and pecking dots on the cardboard. I was heading to the pet store and thought it might be nice to pick up some crickets or meal worms for them to chase. Is there any reason not too? If its not a good idea when do you start introducing them to stuff like that?

A week is a bit young, IMO, though if they could catch a cricket at that age more power to them! Likely, if they aren't getting much of either and have grit to help process the bugs, it's not the worst idea in the world. At that age, I was giving mine a few crumbled bits of scrambled egg off my fingers so they'd stop panicking every time I reached to clean the dishes and bedding, but I'm going to grab some crickets and mealies for their month-old birthday tomorrow.
