Weevils or flour beetles in chicken feed

Welcome to BYC....
If you just bought it, return it...
If it's old, it may be no good. Check the date of manufacture...feed doesn't last forever.

Most flower, corn meal, rice, chicken feed, etc comes home from the grocery store or the feed mill with weevil eggs included at no additional charge. If you intend to keep these foods for an extended period then it should spend a week or three in a deep freezer at -20 degrees or lower. This is the price that you must pay for "natural" food.

However some posters say that all chicken feed contains Diatomaceous Earth or DE to protect it from insect infestations. Evidently either your feed mill got ahold of a bad batch of DE, or else long dead fossilized algae is ineffective at killing weevils. The call is your's.
