I have my bantam columbian wyandotte. she was going through what we thought was a broody phase which she seems to have come out of. Now we went outside today and when you pick her up she usually will sqwak a bit. but today it sounds more like she is having an asthma attack. Her beak stays open while she is breathing and you hear the high pitch wheezing. She is still out and around in the yard and scratching. and she still runs when you attempt to pick her up. so she seems ok other than this. Any help is appreciated.

If you are squeezing her, it will cause high pitched wheezing. If that's not the case, it's possible she may have something stuck in her throat or crop. Give her an eyedropperful of vegetable oil orally, then gently massage from her neck down to her crop. She will either puke or pass whatever is stuck. Lastly, are there symptoms of sneezing, bubbly eyes, gurgling, head shaking, runny nostrils, facial swelling? If so, most likely it's a respiratory disease or maybe a fungal issue.

i dont recall seeing any of the other symptoms of the respiratory disease. I am going to try the vegetable oil right now. Thanks so much, i am so worried. But just in case. what would be a way of helping her with the respiratory disease if that is what it is. Thank you so much dawg53. I will keep you posted

Good news! My hen is all better after giving her the little bit of oil. THanks for your help, dawg53
