Weimaraner has discovered the cat box

We have the cat box in the basement with a cat door on the basement door. There is no way your dog would fit through there! None of my 3 can!

A product called ForBid is available through pet supply catalogs online. Make sure you get the one that is SAFE FOR CATS. You'll need at least 2 weeks supply. Sprinkled on the pooper's food, it creates a taste disagreeable to dogs. They will keep sampling, though, so you MUST be consistent!!! Just ONE "good-tasting" poop, and you'll be back at zero or worse.

You might need to do this periodically if you have a bored dog.

I have 4 cats, and don't think ForBid would be cost-effective here...still thinking about it, as we have 3 dogs who race us to the basket....3 smelly-breathed dogs....

I agree with Redyre! I have to tell you when I read the title of the post I laughed out loud! I have had 3 weims and worked for a breeder.
They are smart dogs and driven which will work for you in the field. I had one that could open his locked crate to get at a bone on the inside.

Best of luck!

We had a weimaraner, Saint Nick. We called the cat box raiding "granola bars". But he actually ate almost anything. Pillows, shoes, rubbersnakes, bags of potatoes, raid the sugar bowl. We never could break his weird eating habits and had him medicated at one point. He was the most beautiful dog we ever owned but the most odd.

I agree with putting it in a room with a cat door in the door. We have a beagle and 2 German Shepherds and use a baby gate propped in front of the utility room door with enough room for the cats to go behind. The dogs know they are not permitted in the utility room and respect the gate.

I would be more concerned about the dog ingesting the clay cat litter than the cat poop itself. The clumping litter can be especially problematic and cause major health issues for the dog by causing an impaction in the bowel requiring surgery.

My dog ate so much cat litter (I didn't know at the time, to be young again) that I rushed her to the ER hospital on a Saturday night because I thought she was choking. They induced vomiting and the only thing that came out was a small piece of fabric. Next day, she starting doing it again, ran her to her vet where they induced a very DEEP vomiting (drops in her eyes) and she vomited about 7 pounds of cat litter. They were astonished at the amount of litter she puked. I had to have blood work run to make sure nothing had happed to her vital organs. Very expensive lesson I learned to keep a baby gate up and keep all dogs out of the delicacies in the litter box.

I had the same problem with my dogs.. nasty critters.

I had to move my boxes to a place in my basement... and i put a cat door in my basement door so only the cats can get downstairs to their box.

Our vet told us to sprinkle the cat food with meat tenderizer. Doesn't harm the cats but it makes the poop taste bad to dogs. It worked with our ACD.

Get a Litter-Robot. They are wonderful! Solved our "dogs eating the kitty cookies" problem. We have two, one in the bedroom and the other in the bathroom.
