Well hello everyone! This odd goop is hanging out of my Red SexLinks bottom and I have zero idea what this is! This hen has had egg laying issues before so I am honestly not suprised. It looks like she’s trying to poop it out but can’t get it any further than that. Do yal have any idea of what this is? How can I help my poor baby?

Could you gently extract it and take a picture of it on a paper towel?

When I try to zoom in the definition is shot.

How old is she?

I’m thinking eggshell membrane orrrrrrr.... maybe she ate a piece of strip of plastic....
god forbid that be a massive tapeworm!

Then I’d lube up a gloved finger and feel gently inside for shell.

It looks like an egg shell membrane, from a broken egg inside the vent. If you pull it out and decide that it what it is, you may want to treat her with some Calcium tablet daily for 3 days, and give her an antibiotic, such as Baytril (enrofloxacin) for 5 days to help prevent infection in her egg tract. Here is a link for that:

It's definitely a soft shell membrane. It's possible there wernt any contents (egg whites/yolk) expelled internally, I've had it happen without any occurring infection. Yet with others, infection followed.
If you wish to start treatment as Eggcessive stated, do it. As long as she is eating, drinking and acting like a chicken should, everything is fine. It's a 50/50 shot whether infection sets in or not.
