This is the 3rd time posting about my cochin with some sort of weird abscess. Nobody has been able to figure out what it is. Over the last few weeks it has tripled in size, and within the last 24 hours it seems to have popped. It doesnt seem painful but it looks absolutely disgusting and I don’t know what to do. At this point would it be more humane to euthanize her? I can touch it(with gloves of course) and she doesn’t react at all so I don’t think it’s causing her pain. The middle bulging part is hard and firm, and the surrounding part is softer but also firm. What do I do?? I’ve never seen anything like it.

The educators here will be able to help you with this, it looks serious and I hope she is not in pain. I am tagging BYC Educator @Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive

Is your little hen there eating/drinking/doing things normally?
Does she still lay egg?
How about an epsom salt bath to clean out undesirable stuff outside.

As far as I can tell she’s still laying, but I have quite a few hens and most of them lay similar size/colored eggs so it can be hard to tell who laid what egg. I’ve seen her eat and drink normally.

That is good that she still eat/drink and behave normally.

I don't know what the abscess near her vent is....guessing by a long shot, it could be a wound that escalate? Does it smell?

The thing on her comb could be pecking wound from the flock or fowl fox.
I would give her an epsom salt bath to clean her bottom and the Educators will tell more what that is.

Edit to add: Her condition near her vent might be treatable. Hang in there with your little hen❤️
