Weird beak issue.. Need some advice

Thanks a bunch everyone seriously.. I just did some research for this and for a flaky or peeling beak it may take 9-12 months for the new beak to hopefully renew itself. So as of today I'm changing her diet for the better. Well not necessarily changing but just adding more of those essentials. At least she isn't bleeding or in pain, that is my biggest concern.

How are her toe nails? Looking at her feet, could she have scaly leg mites?
Infectious diseases: Many viral, bacterial, parasitic and fungal pathogens can directly infect bird beaks or infect another part of the bird’s body and cause secondary problems to the bill. Some biggies here include scaly leg and face mites, psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) and avian pox. The bacterial and fungal diseases are usually successfully treated with antibiotics or antifungal medications.
The key to treating any of these conditions is careful observation and quick action on your part. If you notice anything unusual about your bird’s beak, contact your veterinarian immediately. The sooner you address the problem, the sooner your bird will be treated and the more likelihood of a good prognosis. I hope this helps....

Her legs look fine to me, I don't see any mites whatsoever. My mother spoke with a vet today who only works with exotic animals meaning birds reptiles etc. she said its like 99% chance it's her diet and she's lacking vitamin a and d. Got some vitamins for her today to spray on her food and electrolytes as well.. I will get biotin as well very soon

It's entirely possible she got caught up on something or hit something head-on and broke the top layer of her beak.
Kua, my hen that broke her beak badly, healed fine, but several times after managed to break the horn off the top layer of her beak, much like your hen. I caught her once... she tried to jam her beak through some hardware cloth, then freaked out, twisted, and pulled back. The top layer looked flakey and cracked until it grew back in.

If she were my hen, I'd keep her on a good diet and watch and see what the new layer grows in like. As long as she eats and drinks well for you I wouldn't be too terribly concerned. If you see any problems with her nails, feet, or continued beak problems, it can be an indication of a liver problem (either fatty liver, disease, or vitamin deficiency). Unfortunately it's very hard to tell which of these problems it might be without blood-work done at a vet.

Well all I can say is that I'd hope it's a vitamin issue so I can fix it, I would hate to know its a liver problem or something internal like that. Any recommendations for food in a situation like this? I give her lots of fruits n veggies along with plain yogurt here and there. Oats sometimes, chicken feed ( putting in this kickin chicken feed supplement I spray in) and of course all the bugs she catches in the yard

It sounds like you are feeding her well. What chicken feed do you use?
Liver problems just tend to exhibit themselves in birds (all species) as beak problems, then sometimes nail and feather problems. Fatty liver is usually a problem of accidental overfeeding over the long term. It's probably not the case but I wanted to mention it as an option just so you were aware. I really suspect some physical damage.

Honestly I don't know the name of it, we gave the bag away when I gave away my other girls and we just have some set aside for her. I'd think its pretty basic tho.. 50lbs for like $17 or $18.. Crumbled.. We used to get purina from the feed store and the new bag is just a giant thick papered bag, logo on the front was green and you opened it by pulling this plastic string on top across the top part of the sac. I honestly can't remember the name but ill check for sure next time I go to the Feed store.

And yesterday we got a feed supplement as I mentioned to put in her food, and this other bag of vitamins and electrolytes to out in her water.

No problem. Some people have great luck their entire lives with the Purina and similar feeds, and some have problems now and then ... it really depends on the bird, how they are kept (what kind of forage), genetics, and a billion other variables! Next time you get it, you might want to keep the ingredients tag so that you can help troubleshoot any problems that may arise (I hope there are none, of course!). A lot of the commercial feeds use only soy as a protein source and some chickens seem to need a bit more complete proteins depending on how many insects they get, etc.

Anyhow this is all speculation. For now just see how her beak does and her overall health... you should be okay. :)
