I had posted a thread about this before in the injury forum, but now I think this isn’t an injury, and just something they do.

I was free ranging my chickens and supervising them. They were out almost the entire day, and I had a pullet sitting in the nesting box, getting ready to lay at some point. I opened it to see if there was an egg yet, and at first, her face was completely pale. No red in her comb or face. I freaked out for a second, until I saw the red flooding back. It only took about 5 seconds, and all the color was back. She stared at me like, “What?”.

I was so confused and surprised. As I kept watching the whole flock as they free ranged, I noticed some had pale faces that did the same thing. They would be pale as they layed down, and red when they stood up.

Is this a blood thing? Normal?
