Weird Behavior

What does it mean when you go to pick up a hen and she squats down, slightly extends her wings from her body, and stomps her "feet"?

That sounds like their typical submissive behavior they exhibit with the rooster but hens do that around their people too. All of our very friendly hens do that, they squat down if we go to pet them or pick them up.

Mine do the same thing. It's like they are just submitting to us picking them up

Plus, if they're just starting to do that, it also means they're close to laying... if they haven't already.

It's what they do for their roosters. Submit. I consider it an honor.
