This morning I noticed one of my Delawares was backed into a corner of the brooder with its head hung down by its legs..almost like it was looking at something. Then it started to quickly shake its head back and forth like it was preening itself. I took a closer look and its beak was not even touching its belly or its thighs, and it had its eyes closed. I watched it for a couple of minutes and tried to get its attention but it never looked up or changed its stance. It would stop shaking its head back and forth periodically but would resume ever so often. This chick is around 4 weeks old

Any idea's? Sounds similar to a disease called star gazing, only its head is down

I went ahead and culled it today as nothing has changed with its behavior. Its eyes were starting to get foggy looking and I'm sure it wasn't eating or drinking. Here's a pic if it helps any. I've seen some strange things happen to chickens but never this and I'd still like to understand what could cause it.

do you think it could have been caused by some sort of vitamin deficiency? I know vitamin deficiency can cause some strange behaviors and symptoms? could have been hatched with the deficiency? I just heard a whole show on vitamin deficiency and chickens and you wouldn't believe some of the strange symptoms it can cause. very interesting to hear. perhaps that's what was going on with this little one. sometimes they get so far and there is no reversing the damage from the deficiency. maybe that's this was what was causing this little ones issues? just a thought. hope this helps. its a possibility..

I have nothing else to go by realsis so that would be as good a guess as any. It wasn't the runt and with plenty of feeder space I don't see why just one bird out of the group would have the symptoms but that's how life goes I suppose. They can't all be the super chickens we'd like them to be :)

What is the show you were watching? Did it go into epigenetics and gmos and how the nutritional deficiencies are caused by gmos pulling vitamins/minerals out of the body, which causes the diseases. How about toxicity by chemicals, gmos and pharmaceuticals causing the very diseases everybody is experiencing here?

Pharmaceuticals are not the evil of the world! I've left a lengthly reply to your last rant about pharmaceuticals but in this case I'm simply going to say there is a time for natural medicine and a time for modern medicine and I'm greatful we no longer live in the dark ages when the average life span was 30 due to lack of modern medicine.I'm not going to argue with you or get political as this is not the place for that
I agree natural medicine is good but there also is a place for modern medicine depending on the situation.it seems your looking for an argument and I.refuse to argue with you.lets just say we each have a right to our own opnions. Please do not continue putting labels or wrong and right on choices we have. I for one am both greatful for natural AND modern medicine. there is a time and place for both
That is my opinion.
