weird chicken noise

It was about 3 or 4 months ago I reached towards one of my hens when she was in the nesting box and she made a sound that was like Gaaaaaa! So i just thought that she was protecting her eggs so i left her alone. The next day,she was out of the nesting box,I reached towards her and she made the same sound. She still makes that sound when I touch her or reach for her. If anyone knows why she is doing that could you tell me. Thanks.

Does she puff up and peck you when she makes that noise? If not maybe that's how she acknowledges your presence.

Is there a chance she could be broody? I had a Black Australorp that did that when she wanted to sit on eggs. I don't think red sex links are known for their broodiness but there's always that "oddball", lol.
