I have 3 females and 1 male - all live inside - nothing has changed with the feed - cage - or the group

I have been getting a few weird eggs LOL

these are fairly young layers ( only been laying a few months )

here is the normal eggs I get

S6302403.jpg

you can see they are all diffrent colors and pattrens of spots ( the double in the middle I get at least 1-2 times a week when it is in the regular sized form it is the same color and pattren as it is in double )

now yesterday I got this egg ( the 3 in a line were from another day I only get 3 eggs a day lol )

now it is another double BUT it is a diffrent color than the others ??
I did not know birds can change the color of thier eggs ??

and this morning I found this strange little egg

S6302405.jpg

it has a normal hard shell BUT is slightly blue with darker blue spots

the other side has darker brown spots and has a weird little bump - the bump looks like a pile up of the darker spot coloring -- very weird little egg

but why BLUE??

so why have my girls been laying diffrent colored eggs ? I am not worried about it - just thought it was funny to get these 2 eggs LOL

Coturnix eggs can change like that, I'm not sure why that is. The blue one is actually a powdery coating, one of my tuxedos lays an egg like that all the time. Every once in a while my hands are wet when I gather them, and the blue eggs look just like the others if they are wet

The bump on the egg just means there was too much spot stuff put on. The spots are like a coating that is put on at the end.

I have learned to NOT pick up the eggs with alot of spots until AFTER they have had a chance to sit in the cage and air dry a bit - I hate getting all the spot coloring on my fingers LOL

just when I think I have a handle on my birds and learning about them - they go and change the rules on me

well glad to know I MIGHT be getting a few more oddly colored eggs from time to time

always something new with these guys/girls LOL

Peel eggs (strip membrane). Place in jars. Mix 1/2 white vinegar, 1/2 water, 1 cup salt per gallon solution, 1 box pickling spice per gallon and small amount of onion, if desired. Bring to a boil and pour over eggs in jars.
