Hi all. My wife and I have had 2 RRs for the last year and a half and just got 8 day old baby chicks less then 3 weeks ago. They are RR, bared rock, 2 x Colombian, leghorn, 2 x black sex link and a red sex link. Thanks for having such a great online resource!

Now for the question... All 7 other chicks are fine but this Leghorn has toes like this:

She is 2.5 weeks old. Does anybody have an idea of what it might be, cause or cure? We read on another site that its just called crooked toes and there isnt anything that can be done. Thanks in advance.

I just responded to another post regarding riboflavin deficiency. I had a chick with curly toe paralysis that looked similar to your picture. We used Polyvisol (liquid children's vitiman) diluted with water and offered it in an eyedropper. Google "chicken riboflavin deficiency"--there are a number of articles and resources. My chickens (two of them) both recovered within about two weeks. Good luck--

My chick had this. I never fixed it because I didn't know of BYC at the time. She is alive and well and living a normal life. (She does have a little trouble with roosting though.)

Thanks for good news. She is 5 weeks now and like said above it doesn't seem to bother her. We are going to try the children's vitamins and see how it works. Just not too sure how much to give and how much to water it down. Any more info is appreciated. Thanks again to all for posting. We will keep you updated.

Hi, these curved toes are most likely caused by Marek's diesease, which is a virus that can affect younger chickens. This can be fatal, so I would take your chicken to the vet right away. If you provide EXTRA care for your chicken, such as keeping them inside with you if it's cold, or also providing exercises for her/him, than your chicken has a better chance of living. But definitely take your chicken to the vet, you won't regret it! I hope your chicken gets better :( and I hope this helped :).
