So its been a weeks-long process. Here's the story:

I have a RIR thats just about a year old. A few weeks back she quit laying and got sick...like, wouldn't eat, drink, move sick. I gave her duramycin and she recovered, but had yet to start laying. Well, yesterday there was an extra egg in the nest and today again, that can't have come from any of my other hens, but is not quite the same color or size that this hen was laying before she got sick...SO....

is it possible for the egg size and color of a hen to change? and why?

When they start up after a lay off, the eggs can start off smaller just as if they are pullets. But they get larger much quicker than a pullets does. Or did she start off with a larger size? As hens age they tend to lay larger eggs. The color, shade, may be off because she was sick, or just was a kink that has to be worked out.

The other option is that I have a speckled Sussex that's layer 4 eggs in 2 days. I need to spend a day at home watching every hen get in the nesting box and see what eggs they've left behind. It's not making sense.
