Weird Egg with Umbilical Cord

Well, I'm sure it's not an umbilical cord, but it sure looks like one!

Anyone have an idea of what happened here?

One of my good friends gave me this picture last week, one of her hens laid it.

I thought it was weird enough to post.

It is called a chalaise(sp?) There are two it holds the yolk in the middle of the egg, it is perfectly normal, it unwinds as the egg gets older and usually is not seen in store bought eggs. Think of it as a natural bungee cord.
 
what causes the hen to lay an egg in 2 parts like that?Is she stressed or is it her feed?
