2 of my 3 girls have just started laying again..( BO and SS)they are three different breeds so I know whose eggs they are. My welsummer had not started back up but I found this in the pen today below where they roost in the morning after having breakfast. ( no where near nest box)

The inside color is definitely the darker terra cotta of my welsummer. I am concerned about what looks to be blood on it? She had an issue with a few shell less eggs last summer during a heat wave and then was fine. She is acting normally. Anything to worry about?

That’s a truly weird looking egg for sure.

What do your girls eat?

@WVduckchick is looking for pictures of anomalies. I’m sure she’d be interested in this one.

Question:
If you scratch at that sandy half of the egg, does it easily flake off or is it stuck on hard like a calcium bump?
They were eating feather ficker during their molt earlier in winter now I have switched back to egg layer..they get veggies and mealworms as treats

I knew what you meant.

Is she just starting back up with her laying?
It looks like it was sitting in there for a bit of time.
My wellies just got back in the swing of things a few weeks ago.

I’d just watch her.
And also take a peek at her vent.
If I passed that egg, I’d be sore too!:th
This is her first egg since fall. It wasn't there yesterday. I cleaned the coop and changed water yesterday afternoon and it was in the same area as the water, I would have seen it and it's been so cold it would have cracked if it had been there for over a day
