Hi again! Today, I was cleaning out my coop and found an egg mixed with the bedding (same color). It has a tons of brown speckle like bumps near the bottom. I did the water test and it sunk to the bottom. Anyone have any idea what it is/if it's safe to eat? Thanks!
picture would help, but my guess is it was just an oops on the roost egg and should be fine to eat. The bumps sound like calcium deposits (harmless) and several of my hens have speckles on their eggs--both things are cosmetic and nothing to worry about. Do you have pullets that are just starting to lay? Most of the time I get roost eggs from newbies that are taken by surprise.
Yeah, they just started laying, and their eggs are HUGE! Very surprising, but only three are laying. Two of the three lay giant eggs and the other one is normal and her eggs have been getting bigger. I love them
