Ok, two of my girls have been pecked on seriously with bad wounds, had to isolate them, etc. They are back to normal now, wound-wise, and I put pine tar on their tushes and sent them back to the coup. Ros is usually a one a day layer, and she didn't lay for two days while she was isolated. Last night, a couple hours after being put back in, she layed on the ground in the run (at least I'm pretty sure it was her). Then this morning I got this:
weird, huh? Totally hard shell, not soft at all. Just mishapen. I havne't cracked it open. Actually, a lot of my girls have been laying different eggs lately, come to think of it. I did switch them to Layena after being on Flockraiser, and I didn't mix the food. I was told that the only difference between the two is the calcium--but they've had free choice oyster shell so I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal to just start them on the Layena--that and I was out of flockraiser. Ok, so did I mess things up for them? I've been getting different shades of eggs, speckles, etc. I thought once they had a certain eggshell color, that was it...no?
Like this one--dont know if you can tell but it's all speckled. I never get speckled eggs like this from them and they've been laying for a month or so.
so to recap--my questions are--why the mishapen egg, could it be because she was kinda "backed up" from not laying for two days? and would the different shades of eggs be because of the new food?
Thanks!
