In the Brooder
I'm not even sure where to begin this post.
Ok so my EE, she's my son's favorite chicken. He LOVES that thing. But, she's our hen with "issues" I just can't understand this chicken. There has to be at least one special one in every flock right?
So when she started laying....she laid a few shell-less eggs. This was 2 months ago. They don't look anything like they do on google though. These shell-less eggs were only the white, with a sac. Lots of extra fluid. But then she went on to lay perfectly normal, ginormous eggs. Great.
Then yesterday....I saw her "squirt" something, which I assumed was diarrhea, then she turned around, went to the nesting box, and squirted out another shell-less egg. With loads of extra slime. And a white sac still hanging from her vent. Ugh...this chicken.
Ok...so we soaked her bum in warm water with dawn soap. The kids thought it was great, a bubble bath for chickens. Cleaned her up, very slowly removed the extra white thing hanging from her vent. Checked her vent. All good. Normal looking color. Nothing extra hanging out. Great. Hopefully she'll be fine.
Then within 12 hours she drops a fully formed egg, with the dried white stuff(the same I removed from her vent), on the roosting board. Ugh...so I'm hoping she's fine. Maybe it was just a back up? Or stressed? She is the lowest on the pecking order. And we were gone for 4 days, and she will hold it until she's able to be let out. They also went from being free range all day to only being let out for an hour a day for exercise. I think the coop and run is big enough. Any suggestions would be great.
I'll post a picture of the egg, and the other eggs for size comparison. Also, it's not affecting the rest of the flock. Their eggs are good, laying is fine. I think she just is our "special hen." I also started putting in ACV in their water to help with disinfecting their water since now it's in a 5 gallon bucket and for probiotics.
Also, her eggs don't always look this lumpy. It's really only when she doesn't lay for a few days.
