In the Brooder
Hi, I'm new to chicken keeping and have four lovely girls; Cissy, Ada, Evadne Hinge, and Hilda Bracket. Evadne and Hilda are Warrens, Cissy is a hybrid White Leghorn, and Ada is a hybrid Black Rock. They all eat the same food, including fruit, veg, layers' pellets, and grit. Hilda has been laying lovely eggs regularly for about three weeks, while another (we think it's Ada) has just started with one or two smaller, but nicely formed eggs. A couple of days ago we had a shell-less egg, and then, yesterday, a teeny-tiny egg no more than an inch long appeared in the run. We boiled it in an amused kind of way but when I cut it, the yolk was completely white! I did taste it and it was a bit bland but have to admit I didn't fancy eating the rest of it
I've read that this can be a dietary thing but since the girls all eat the same stuff, that doesn't seem likely. Is it just a case of a new layer needing practice?
